Women's soccer team defeats Mercer University 3-1 in A-Sun play

Boca Raton, FL - ,Florida Atlantic women's soccer team ran it's unbeaten streak to six games, with a 3-1 win over Mercer University in Atlantic-Sun conference play.

Junior Lisanne Peart scored two goals and freshmen Janine Aylward scored a goal and assisted on another to lead the Lady Owls.

FAU opened the scoring at 37:50 of the first half on Peart's first goal of the game. Freshmen Kelly Hoffmann started the play with a cross from the right flank to freshmen Autumn Baur who redirected the cross to Peart. Peart controlled the ball and lifted a left-footed shot into the upper right corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Despite out-shooting Mercer 10-1 in the first half, FAU held a slim 1-0 lead entering the second half.
 

 

Mercer tied the score at 1-1 on a direct free kick taken by junior Anna Bengtsson at the 74:53 mark.

FAU answered at the 77:15 mark, as freshmen Janine Aylward scored her fourth goal of the season. Sophomore Jessica Kmiotek played a ball into freshmen Brandi Herrmann, who received the pass and put a shot on Mercer goalkeeper Karolina Revay. Revay was unable to hang onto the ball and Aylward was their to put in the rebound and give the Lady Owls the lead back for good.

Peart finished the scoring with her second goal (84:06) of the game and fourth on the season, with assists going to Aylward and sophomore Danielle Castro.

With the win FAU moves to 9-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the A-Sun. Mercer drops to 5-7-1 overall and 4-5 in the conference.

FAU will host Troy State on Saturday, October 20, at 2pm. The game will be the last home game of the season for the Lady Owls and is also part of Parents Weekend.
