FAU Drops 1-0 Decision to Louisiana-Monroe

Oct. 14, 2007

Box Score

BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team dominated every statistical category except the final score on Sunday, in a tough 1-0 loss to the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

The Owls controlled both possession and tempo throughout the first half, outshooting the Warhawks by a staggering 13-1 margin. ULM's lone shot was crucial, as freshman forward Tiffany Bombard scored her third goal of the season on a deft pass from junior defender Rachel Hobson in the game's 24th minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper Mallory George turned in a pivotal performance for Louisiana-Monroe, withstanding a barrage of FAU shots to finish with eight saves on the day. Junior Jessica Badders stopped two of three shots on goal for the Owls.

Susanna Lehtinen applied intense pressure on the Florida Atlantic attack, generating six shots - four on goal - for the game. The senior forward was assisted by three shots from Alicia Tirelli and two each from Natalie D'Oria and Gillian Baggott.

The tough-luck Owls committed 11 fewer fouls than the Warhawks (18-7), and were awarded six more corner kicks (8-2).

Florida Atlantic (5-7-1, 2-4-0 Sun Belt) looks to break a three-game winless streak on a road trip to Alabama next weekend. FAU takes on South Alabama in Mobile Friday night at 8 p.m. ET, before traveling to Troy for a 1 p.m. Sunday start.
