Ragin' Cajuns Nip Owls in OT
Oct. 12, 2007
The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team lost in overtime to Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday night. The match was a disjointed affair as both teams struggled to find offensive continuity. The two teams combined for just five shots in the first half. The second half was a bit smoother, but neither team could consistently establish an offensive rhythm. ULL struck first when, with just over two minutes left in regulation Bridgette Adorno found a soft spot in the FAU defense and fired in a shot from 12 yards out. The Owls responded just 19 seconds later when Alicia Tirelli hit Susanna Lehtinen with a cross into the ULL box and Lehtinen's shot found the back of the net. With less than a minute remaining in the first overtime, Callie Oliver crossed a ball to Stephanie Lynch and Lynch beat keeper Jessica Badders for the gamewinner.
The Owls fall to 5-6-1 on the year and 2-3-0 in Sun Belt play, they return to action on Sunday when they face Louisiana-Monroe at noon.
