North Texas Posts 3-2 Win Over FAU

Oct. 4, 2008

Final Stats

DENTON, TX - Florida Atlantic University lost a hard-fought match to the University of North Texas, 3-2, in Sun Belt Conference women's soccer action Friday night in Denton.

FAU (1-7-1; 0-2-1 SBC) is off to a slow start to its 2008 season. The Owls were 9-7-3 a year ago and have enjoyed a string of eight-straight winning seasons.

FAU played well Friday night. Laura Hyvonen scored off an assist from teammate Natalie D'Oria in the fifth minute to allow the Owls an early lead.

North Texas (8-2, 2-1 SBC) was able to even the score at one apiece going into the halftime break and added a pair of decisive goals in the second-half. Brittany Cleveland and Kelsey Perlman each registered a goal and an assist to pace the Mean Green.

Senior Brittany Comer scored on a corner kick set up by freshman Gabriela DeVries in the 85th minute.

FAU, who plays at the University of Denver on Sunday afternoon, was without the services of all-conference defender Janeke Simpkins, who is expected to miss extended time due to injury.
