BOCA RATON, FL - Middle Tennessee State University defeated Florida Atlantic University by the slimmest of margins, 1-0, in Sun Belt Conference women's soccer action Sunday afternoon at FAU Field.

Florida Atlantic (1-6-1; 0-1-1 SBC) finishes its weekend homestand 0-1-1. The Owls have scored just three goals in eight matches this season.

Midway through the first half MTSU sophomore Fran Howells capitalized on an FAU foul in front of the net by knocking in the game's only goal on a penalty kick. The Blue Raiders held the 1-0 lead for the remaining 60-plus minutes to pick up the road win.

Middle Tennessee State (4-4-2; 2-0-0 SBC) begins the conference season winning both matches on its weekend trip to South Florida. The Blue Raiders knocked off Florida International University 2-1 Friday night.

Ashley Mannarino nearly scored with 1:30 remaining for FAU, sending a shot high and wide from ten yards out. The Owls totaled seven shots to the Blue Raiders' 13.

Florida Atlantic initiates its longest road swing of the season later this week, playing four consecutive conference games in three different states. The Owls will play at the University of North Texas on Friday night at 8 p.m. ET and at the University of Denver Sunday afternoon at 3pm ET.
