Owls Edge Rival FIU 1-0

Sept. 18, 2005

Box Score

MIAMI, FL -- Susanna Lehtinen's sixth goal of the year was the difference as the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team edged Florida International University 1-0 Sunday.

The Owls picked up the big win against their local rival thanks to Lehtinen's goal, scored on a free kick following an FIU foul. It was her sixth of the season and third game-winning goal. She leads the Atlantic Sun Conference in both catigories.

The Owls out-shot the Golden Panthers 9-7, but the Panthers held the edge in shots on goal, 5-4.

Megan Coyne got the start in goal, and made one save while playing the first half. Jessica Badders played the second half and made three stops to maintain the 1-0 margin.

The shutout is FAU's third consecutive (Badders and Coyne have split all three), they now have five on the season. All five of the Owls' victories have come via the shutout. They have allowed just six goals total in their first eight games.

Next up for Florida Atlantic is a trip to Nashville, TN where the Owls will take on conference rivals Lipscomb and Belmont. The Lipscomb match is scheduled for Sept 23 at 8 p.m., Belmont for Sept. 25 at 2 p.m.
