Owls Get Back on Winning Track with 1-0 victory

Sept. 11, 2005

Box Score

RICHMOND, VA -- The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team has had a tough stretch of games in the last two weeks, and finally they were rewarded for playing a strong game.

Florida Atlantic defeated Richmond 1-0 thanks to a goal by Danielle DiLeo in the 33rd minute and the strong play of goalkeepers Megan Coyne and Jessica Badders.

Coyne got the start and the win, making two saves. Badders played the second half and also made two stops.

The Owls came into today's game with the Spiders having lost their last three games, however the combined margin in those losses was only four goals. Offense had been the main culprit, as FAU scored just two goals in those three contests.

DiLeo came off the bench in the 29th minute, and produced the results head coach Brian Dooley was hoping for.

She scored on a header from eight yards out on a cross from Denise Brolly, who picks up her first point of the 2005 season.

The win gets the Owls back to the .500 mark on the year at 3-3. Having completed a tough four-game road-trip, FAU will now come back to Boca Raton to host UNF in their first conference battle of the 2005 season.

The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
