D'Oria's Late Goal Earns Owls a Tie

Sept. 3, 2006

Box Score

Tampa, FL -- Alicia Tirelli and Natalie D'Oria posted second-half goals and the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team erased a late deficit to earn a tie with USF on Sunday.

With FAU (0-2-2) trailing 1-0 after the first half of play thanks to Lindsay Brauer's sixth goal of the season, Tirelli got on the board with her first goal of the season to bring the Owls even at the 62:31 mark.

Autumn Browning took the wind out of FAU's sails with a goal of her own in the 85th minute at the 84:12 mark, giving the Owls little time to respond.

The Owls rose to the challenge and D'Oria's shot with just 47 seconds left beat USF goalkeeper Casey Garret for the equalizer. The goal was D'Oria's first of her collegiate career and FAU's second in the final 37 minutes of the game. The tallies were the first given up by USF (2-0-1) in the 2006 season.

Megan Coyne got the start in net for FAU and played the first half, making a pair of saves while allowing one goal. Jessica Badders came off the bench and played the second half along with the overtime periods, making five saves and allowing Browning's goal.

Though FAU was out shot 21-13 in the contest, the shots on goal were much closer (9-7 in favor of USF).

With their two-game road trip complete, the Owls will now return home for a six-game home stand, starting with the Miami Hurricanes on September 8 at 7:30 p.m.
