Women soccer downs Wofford College 4-0

Sept. 2, 2001

Boca Raton - Florida Atlantic women's soccer team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 4-0 win against Wofford College in the final game of the Florida Atlantic Soccer Classic.

In the first game of the afternoon Georgia Southern (1-1-0) defeated Lehigh (0-2-0) 2-1.

After a scoreless first half, FAU sophomore forward Lauren Lucena opened the scoring at 60:07. Freshman, Kari Kaiser started the play by taking the ball down the right flank and crossing the ball to Lucena, who finished the play with a right footed shot into the corner.

FAU then scored its second goal just 1:31later with a goal by Rhonda Jones. The goal was scored off a free kick by Danielle Castro who played the ball to Kelly Hoffman. Hoffmann then set up Jones at the top of the eighteen yard box, and Jones chipped a ball over the Wofford's goalkeeper, Katie Menegaz, to make it 2-0.

Rounding out the scoring for FAU were Autumn Baur (70:14) and Jessica Kmiotek (85:32). Assists on the two goals were given to Lindsey Novitske, Sarah Baesler, and Gayle Toth.

FAU sophomore goalkeeper Molly Keating recorded her second win and second consecutive shut-out on the season with four saves.

FAU coach Brian Dooley was very pleased with the teams effort.

"We made an adjustment at halftime to play with three forwards," said Dooley. "This allowed us to generate more scoring opportunities. Then it was just a matter of us converting those chances, and we did."

FAU next travels to Miami on Tuesday, September 4, for a 7pm match against Miami.
