Women's Golf Wins First Tournament of Spring

March 25, 2003

Complete Results

DeLand, FL. - Seeking their first win of the semester, the Florida Atlantic University women's golf team shot a final round 308 to win by 17-strokes at the Hatter Spring Fling at Victoria Hills Golf Club hosted by Stetson University. Anne Fraser fired a final round 77 to take medallist honors while three other Lady Owls finished in the top 16.

Fraser, from Deerfield Beach, FL, never lost her hold of the lead even though she had to fight off Florida Southern University's Pamela Feggans who shot a tournament low 72. Fraser has improved her overall finish in every tournament this semester, going from a 12th place finish in the first contest to a first place finish this afternoon. This is the second medallist honor she has received this year after finishing first at the FGCU Fall Invitational in October. Natalia Navarro placed 6th after shooting a team low round of 76 for her third top-10 finish in a row. Jessica Carafiello finished in 10th place after seven-stroke improvement from the previous day. Heidi von Korff shot a final round 79 to place 16th while Kendall Kirby finished with a two-round total of 170.

FAU took a three-stroke lead into the second day but with four members cracking the top 16, the Owls pulled away from the pack to complete the two-day tournament with a score of 628. The University of Maryland (645), Jacksonville University (647), Florida Gulf Coast University (647) and Murray State University (648) round out the top five. Atlantic Sun Conference members Stetson University (673) and Jacksonville State University (690) finished 13th and 14th respectively.

FAU continues its season Friday, April 4, at the Florida Intercollegiate Tournament in Miami, FL.
