Owls Ink Three during Spring Signing Period

May 23, 2006

BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University head women's basketball coach Chancellor Dugan has announced that three players have signed letters-of-intent during the spring signing period.

Andrea Taylor, a 5'8" guard from Birmingham, Ala., led Vestavia Hills High School to a 31-4 record and the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Class 6A State Semifinals this past season. During her senior campaign, she averaged 10.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 6.1 steals and 3.3 assists per game, earning Second Team All-State honors from the Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA).

Carla Stubbs, a 5'10" guard from Miami (Fla.) Jackson High School, was named Class 6A-5A First Team All-Dade after averaging 16.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.2 steals per game. She also finished third in the state in the shot put as a senior.

As Stubbs' teammate at Jackson, 5'3" guard Bianca Sellers averaged 15.4 points and 4.5 assists per game and was named Class 6A-5A Second Team All-Dade. Sellers and Stubbs reached the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Regional Finals during their senior season, finishing with a record of 29-2.

"We are taking two huge steps forward with the addition of these three student-athletes to our FAU family and the pursuit of our first Sun Belt Conference championship," stated Dugan. "All three bring great work ethics and skills. I look forward to working with them."

This is Dugan's first recruiting class since leading Florida Atlantic to its first NCAA Division I tournament berth this past March. FAU went 20-11 overall and 16-4 in the Atlantic Sun Conference, winning the 2006 A-Sun Tournament before falling to Final Four qualifier LSU in the first round of March Madness.

The Owls are moving to the Sun Belt Conference for the 2006-07 season.
