David Caputo Named Assistant Women's Basketball Coach
May 3, 2007 BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University women's basketball Head Coach Chancellor Dugan has announced the hiring of David Caputo as an assistant coach. ""David Caputo comes to us from a very successful one year stint at Santa Fe Community College," said Dugan. "He is energetic and will help bolster our recruiting with his contacts both in Florida and the North East." Caputo comes to FAU from Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, FL, where he served as the head assistant women's basketball coach during the 2007 season. With his help on offensive and defensive philosophies, the squad reached its first state tournament since 1996. The team's ranking of seventh in the state was its highest in ten years and their 22-9 record was a 14-win improvement from the previous season. Hailing from New Jersey, Caputo was the head assistant men's basketball coach at Bloomfield College from 2002-2006. During his Bloomfield stint, the team won two regular season championships and three- consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournaments. Bloomfield recorded 20-win seasons along with NCAA Division II tournament berths in 2005 and 2006, falling just short of the 2005 sweet sixteen to the eventual tournament runner-up. Caputo has sent a player overseas to play professional basketball, as well as worked with a three-time All-American. At the AAU level, Caputo was the head coach of the Garden State Sharpshooters 15 and under team. He also has coached at several prestigious summer basketball camps that include the University of Florida women's elite basketball camp and the Rick Majerus Utah University Basketball Camp. The Bernardsville, NJ native received his diploma from Montclair State University.
