Owls Announce Team Awards

April 25, 2006

BOCA RATON, FL -- Shontavia Williams was named Most Valuable Player by her teammates on Sunday at the annual Florida Atlantic University women's basketball banquet.

Brittney Crenshaw took home the Most Improved Player award while Defensive Player of the Year honors went to Shuteamia Brayboy.

Amanda Bulin was given the Coaches Award while the Captain Awards went to Sharia Young, Bulin and Williams.

Williams also earned First-Team Atlantic Sun honors in the 2005-06 season, while leading the team in scoring and rebounding. Brayboy led the team in assists and steals. Her 181 assists broke the previous single-season record of 180 set by Astrid Soulette.

Williams became the program's all-time leading scorer during the season and became just the second Owl to score at least 1,000 points and have 600 rebounds in her career.

The Owls made their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2005-06 after winning their first Atlantic Sun Conference Championship.
