Coach Dugan Responds

March 12, 2001

Question From Nick Gordon: Do you feel that women's basketball is getting enough support from the students, fans, and school because I see a lot of things that the men get and the women don't?

A: I think all comments regarding that should be directed toward the marketing department.

Question From Karen Abramczyk: Does FAU offer any girls sports camps? If not, why not?

A: As far as women's basketball is concerned, we offer a variety of camps for girls during the summer. Please call (561) 297-3164 for more information.

Question From M. E.: If someone never had any experience in playing basketball, would it be okay for that person to start playing any sport from the age of 20-23 and become really good at it? I mean would you let an inexperienced student get into your basketball team?

A: Tryouts are open to everyone.

Question From Chad M. Gilmond: How should someone who is interested in coaching at the college level start out? Is it better to start at the local high school level or should an individual pursue a position as a grad assistant on the college level, and do you know of any services that offer information on opportunities such as this?

A: The graduate assistant level is probably the best way to get into college coaching. You can go the the NCAA website (www.ncaa.org) and look under employment.

Question From Steward Waynne: What activities are scheduled for women's basketball during the summer months that the general public can be involved in?

A: We have camps that the general public can be involved in, but the Lady Owls basketball team doesn't have any such activities.

Question From Ched Chase: I see that the Lady Owls lead the conference in offensive rebounds with 251, which is a little shy of 17 per game. Is that something you've stressed to them this season to get second or third attempts?

A: Our goal is not to lead the conference in offensive rebounds. Our goal is to have a better field goal percentage than anyone and to lead the conference in defensive rebounds.
