Lady Owls Receive Post-Season Honors

March 11, 2003

BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's Tamica Pierce and Shontavia Williams have received post-season honors, announced the Atlantic Sun Conference on Tuesday. Pierce was named Second-Team All-Conference while Williams was named to the All-Freshmen Team.

Pierce, a senior forward from Decatur, GA, leads FAU in scoring with 13.2 points per game. She also is the team's leading rebounder with 6.6rpg. She has scored at least 10 points in 19 games while posting five double-doubles. She is ranked among the top-10 in five different conference categories, including points, rebounds, and steals.

This is the second straight year Pierce has received post-season recognition. Last season, she was named First-Team All-Conference.

Williams, a freshman guard from Miami, FL, is fifth on the team with 7.7 points per game. She has finished in double-figures in scoring eight times and posted a career-high 18 points February 13 at Campbell. She is second on the team in steals and is 11th in the A-Sun in free-throw percentage (.739).

Florida Atlantic finished the regular season 14-13 and will next face Jacksonville State Thursday in the quarterfinals of the A-Sun Tournament in Orlando. The game begins at 1:00pm EST and can be heard live on WLVJ 1040-AM and www.fausports.com. FAU is seeking its first trip to the NCAA Tournament.
