FAU Women Basketball's Carla Stubbs Named to All-Sun Belt Conference Third Team

March 4, 2008

Florida Atlantic University women basketball's guard Carla Stubbs recently was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference third team,

Stubbs started every game for the Owls and led FAU in scoring this season. She was 10th in the conference at 13.0 points per game. Stubbs also finished second on the team in rebounds with five boards per game. Stubbs scored double-digits in 21 of FAU's 27 games this season and led the team in scoring in more games than any other player this season. Her single best performance came on February 21 when Stubbs set career-highs in both points and rebounds and scored a double-double, 22 points and 11 rebounds in the Owls' 64-59 win over Florida International University. It was FAU's first win over FIU since 1996. She also had another 20 point game against the University of Denver on January 24.

Stubbs becomes the first ever FAU women's basketball player to make one of the All-Sun Belt teams. She joins Veronica Smith of Arkansas State University, Iva Ciglar of FIU, Alicia McDaniel of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and Shannon Lloyd of the University of Louisiana at Monroe on the All-Sun Belt third team. Western Kentucky University forward Crystal Kelly was named Sun Belt Player of the Year.

The FAU Owls will begin the Sun Belt Conference Tournament play on Wednesday, March 5 at 8 p.m. at ASU in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The winner will advance to the second round game, hosted by the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. For more information or to listen to the game, go to www.fausports.com.
