Women's Basketball to Face Mercer

Feb. 27, 2004

MACON, GA - Florida Atlantic University will seek its longest winning streak in over five years when it takes on Mercer University Saturday afternoon. The game is scheduled to tip at 1:00pm at the University Center in Macon, GA. The action can be heard on WLVJ 1040-AM and www.fausports.com. The Lady Owls have won their past four games and are coming off a 61-58 win at Georgia State on Thursday. The Bears have lost four straight, including a 29-point loss at home on Thursday to UCF.

The last time FAU won five straight games was in January 1999, head coach Chancellor Dugan's first season. The Lady Owls have won eight of their past 11 games after starting the season 2-11. FAU is currently tied for fifth-place in the A-Sun with Stetson and Troy State. The teams are two games behind fourth-place UCF and one game ahead of eighth-place Mercer.

In its last outing, FAU came from behind to defeat GSU, which led the A-Sun entering the game. Sharia Young scored a career-high 15 points, and Trineca McCleod had her sixth double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. McCleod leads the team with 14.9ppg.

Mercer enters the game 10-14 overall and 8-9 in the A-Sun. The Bears, at one point, were 7-3 in the conference but have lost six of their last seven. Jessica Miller leads the team with 12.6 points per game. Karen Hickman is adding 8.4.

This is the 29th meeting between the two teams. Mercer holds a 17-11 series edge and defeated FAU, 66-62, January 8 in Boca Raton. FAU is 2-9 at Mercer. The last six games in the series have been decided by six points or less.

The game is the first of three remaining for Florida Atlantic in the regular season.
