Five-Game Win Streak Ends in OT

Feb. 8, 2006

DeLand, FL - Florida Atlantic University's five-game win streak came to an end Wednesday night as the Owls fell in overtime to Stetson University 64-63, in Deland. FAU falls to 11-9 overall and 10-3 in Atlantic Sun Conference play.

"We didn't run our offense tonight at all," head coach Chancellor Dugan said. "We came out flat tonight and it showed."

The Owls opened the game with a 10-0 run, but the Hatters closed the gap to 15-13 at the 11:48 first half mark. The Hatters took their first lead at 20-17 with 9:06 left in the stanza. FAU then scored 11 of the final 17 points of the frame to hold a 28-26 lead at the break.

After missing the last game, Stetson' Nefertiti Walker returned to the lineup and scored 12 of her game-high 31 points in the first half. FAU's Shontavia Williams and Amanda Bulin scored six points each to lead FAU's first 20 minutes of play.

Walker completed a three-point play with 14:18 left on the clock for the Hatters to take their first lead of the second half, 41-40.

With 8:20 remaining, Danielle Riekeberg buried a deep jumper just inside the three-point line to put the Owls on top by six, 52-46 only to see the Hatters reclaim the lead 55-54 on a cost-to coast steal and lay-in by Walker with 5:23 left in regulation.

With less the minute to play the score was knotted at 58, Jaclyn Piloto and Bulin each split a pair of charity tosses to send the game to overtime.

The Owls down by one, 64-63, with seven seconds left in OT saw their last chance to generate a shot dashed when Kim Manning grabbed a steal to preserve the victory before the Stetson home crowd.

Williams led the Owls with 20 points and six rebounds, while Bulin scored double-figures for the fourth time this season with 13 points. She also added four boards.

The Owls will return to action on Feb. 12 against Mercer. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. at FAU Arena.
