Women's Basketball Faces Georgia State

Feb. 7, 2003

BOCA RATON, FL - In a rematch of last year's Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament championship game, Florida Atlantic University will take on Georgia State University Saturday, February 8. The game begins at 7:00pm at FAU Gymnasium and can be heard live on www.fausports.com.

FAU enters the game 9-10 overall and 7-1 in the A-Sun South. The Lady Owls, first in the A-Sun South, own the best record in the entire conference and face a GSU team that is tied for first in the A-Sun North at 5-3 (10-9 overall). FAU is fresh off a 96-83 victory Thursday night against Jacksonville State and has won three straight and nine of 12.

Tamica Pierce, who missed the last five minutes of the JSU game due to an ankle injury, leads FAU with 13.5 points per game. Crystal Boyland, who has been the team's leading scorer since mid-December, is second with 11.5 points per game.

Georgia State comes in having defeated UCF, 52-50, Thursday night in Orlando. The Lady Panthers have won five of their past seven games. Evita Rogers leads the team with 15.3 points per game. Angelina Miller is averaging 13.7.

GSU is averaging just 52 points in its last four games. FAU, on the other hand, is averaging 92 points in its past two games.

FAU trails the all-time series 14-6 as the Lady Panthers have won seven of the past eight meetings. That includes two of three a year ago when GSU defeated FAU 64-63 with a last-second put-back in the A-Sun Tournament title game. The visiting team won both regular season games last year. FAU is 3-5 against GSU at FAU Gymnasium and has lost three straight.

Tickets are available at the door. Prices are $6 for adults and $4 for those 18 years old and under.
