Lady Owls to Host A-Sun Leader
Feb. 1, 2005
BOCA RATON, FL -- Florida Atlantic University looks to extend its season-long four-game winning streak as it begins a three-game homestand Wednesday night against A-Sun leader UCF. FAU enters the game 8-9 overall and tied for third in the A-Sun at 6-4. UCF is 10-7 and leads the A-Sun with an 8-2 record. The game can be heard and seen live on www.fausports.com. Since an 0-3 start in the A-Sun that put the Lady Owls in 10th-place out of 11 teams, FAU has won six of its past seven conference games, seven of nine overall, and four straight at home. A win against UCF would give FAU its first five-game winning streak since January of 2000, Chancellor Dugan's first season as head coach. FAU's latest success was a two-game road sweep at Jacksonville and Stetson last week. The Lady Owls defeated JU 68-54 on Thursday before hanging on to defeat Stetson 67-66 Saturday afternoon. Shontavia Williams has been FAU's leading scorer this year with 14.9 points per game. During the winning streak, she has averaged 18.3ppg. UCF is coming off a 67-59 upset loss at Jacksonville on Saturday. The Dolphins entered the game without an A-Sun win and snapped UCF's seven-game winning streak. Celeste Hudson leads UCF with 11.3ppg. Wednesday's game will be a rematch of the January 3 game in Orlando won by UCF 49-41. FAU will also be seeking to snap a five-game losing streak to the Golden Knights, who are 19-6 all-time against the Lady Owls. On Saturday, FAU hosts Jacksonville in a game that tips at noon. The contest will be televised live on Sunshine Network. The Lady Owls conclude their homestand Monday against Stetson.
