Women's Basketball Continues Road Play

Jan. 29, 2003

BOCA RATON, FL -- Florida Atlantic University will play its second of three straight road games Thursday, January 30, when it takes on Samford University in Birmingham, AL. The game begins at 8:00pm EST at Seibert Hall and will be broadcast live on WLVJ 1040-AM. It can also be heard on the internet at www.fausports.com and www.wlvj.com.

FAU enters the game with a 6-10 record overall and 4-1 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Lady Owls are tied for first place in the A-Sun South with Central Florida and Troy State. FAU is coming off a 77-62 loss at UCF on January 25. Tamica Pierce continues to lead the team with 13.9ppg while Crystal Boyland is second with 11.1ppg.

Samford comes into the game searching for its first conference win of the season. The Bulldogs are 0-5 in the A-Sun and 4-12 overall. Going back two seasons, Samford has lost 30 of its past 34 regular season A-Sun games. The Bulldogs are led by Giovanni Price, who is averaging 9.8ppg.

Samford leads the all-time series 5-4, but FAU has won the past three meetings and has averaged 85 points per game in those contests. The teams have split their four games at Seibert Hall.

Following the Samford game, FAU faces Belmont University, Saturday, in Nashville.
