FAU Women's Basketball Plays Two Games This Week

Jan. 15, 2008

The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team will search for its first conference win this week as they travel to Western Kentucky University on Thursday, January 17 at 8 p.m. before coming back to FAU Arena to host the University of North Texas on Saturday, January 19 at 5 p.m.

Western Kentucky will come into Thursday night's game as the Sun Belt's lone unbeaten team, having won six games in a row. They are led by forward Crystal Kelly, who is second in the Sun Belt in scoring at 22.6 points per game and recently set the all-time conference record for points scored in a career. The Owls continue to be paced by the play of guard Carla Stubbs. She had another solid week for FAU, averaging 16 points and seven-and-one-half rebounds per contest last week against Middle Tennessee State University and Troy University. Thursday night's contest can be heard for free on fausports.com. Click the "Listen" link on the schedule page. The game also can be seen on Fox College Sports Atlantic and live streaming video on Thursday night's contest also can be seen on www.wkusport.tv.

The Mean Green of North Texas come into the week at 6-11 and 2-3 in the conference. They are led by forward Amber Jackson, who leads North Texas in scoring at 13.6 points per game and is second on the boards at just under six rebounds per game.

Prior to the women's game, there will be a celebration at 3:30 p.m. honoring the FAU football team on its win in the R + L Carriers New Orleans Bowl championship, as well as a Sun Belt Title. The team celebration is free and open to the general public, and it will be a great opportunity to purchase commemorative photos, T-shirts, hats, and also receive a free autographed New Orleans Bowl ticket and a commemorative poster.
