FAU Loses To UAB 67-52 In Blazer Invitational

Dec. 18, 2006

Final Stats

Birmingham, AL - Three Owls scored in double digits, but it wasn't enough as UAB took the first-round game of the Blazer Invitational on Monday night over the Owls, 67-52.

"This was a game we could have won going into half-time," said Head Coach Chancellor Dugan. "We need to be more patient and have fewer turnovers to have success this year."

In the first half the Owls led by as many as nine points, 21-12, with 3:57 to play before the break. UAB stormed back with a 14-7 run that included a long Britney Jones three-pointer as the clock expired before half-time to cut their deficit to 28-26.

FAU built its lead to 30-26 off of two Brittany Bowe free-throws with 19:04 to play in the contest, but the Blazers would clamp down on defense and not allow the Owls a single second-half field goal until a Mistoria Brown lay up at the 6:35 mark. Over that span UAB used a 26-10 run to take a 52-38 lead. Florida Atlantic would push the score as close as 10 points but could not withstand a 53.8 percent shooting effort in the second frame by the Blazers.

Brittney Crenshaw led FAU with 14 points and added six rebounds. Bowe cashed in on 13 points and two rebounds, while Brown narrowly missed a double-double with 11 points and nine boards.

Cristal Randolph hit two three-pointers in the first half, which put her alone in second-place all-time in threes made at FAU with 119.

Carmen Guzman paced UAB with 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field. Brittney Jones added 15 points on four three-pointers. The Blazers out rebounded the Owls 42-39.

Florida Atlantic will be back in action on Tuesday at 5 p.m. eastern to take on Alabama State in the Blazer Invitational consolation game. The championship will take place at 7 p.m. between Hampton and UAB. All the games this year can be heard for free on fausports.com.
