Owls Outlasted By Troy 78-63

Dec. 14, 2006

Final Stats

BOCA RATON, FL - Mistoria Brown recorded her first double-double of the season on Thursday, but 38 made free-throws by Troy University was too much for FAU to overcome, as they dropped a conference home match-up to the Trojans, 78-63.

"We've got to become more consistent offensively, said Head Coach Chancellor Dugan. "We need to get into the right spots and work hard for all of our points."

Down 58-57 with 3:51 to play, the Owls were charged with a technical, which led to three made Trojan free-throws. Troy would never relinquish its lead from that point on, ending the game on a 20-6 run.

Florida Atlantic had the score in their favor by as many five points, 42-37, with 14:10 remaining in the game. Troy would claw its way back and take the lead for the final time on two Amy Lewis free-throws with 6:59 left to give the Trojans a 54-52 advantage.

Brown had 11 points and 10 rebounds on the evening to go along with three steals. The senior now has three double-doubles in her career.

In just her second game this season, Brittney Crenshaw reached double-digits with a 10-point effort on a perfect five-of-five shooting night from the field.

The Trojans were led by Valensia Hairston who had 21 points and seven rebounds. Amy Lewis had 19 points on five-of-seven shooting from the field for Troy, as well as an eight-of-eight effort from the charity stripe.

The Owls overcame an early 21-11 deficit in the first-half by going on an 11-0 run to take their first lead, 22-21, on a Cristal Randolph triple. Both squads would end the half exchanging baskets before the Owls took their biggest advantage, 32-29, into the break.

FAU was led in scoring by Brown in the first frame with six points and five rebounds on two-of-three shooting from the field. Susan Beauzil chipped in five points and notched four rebounds in the half.

Florida Atlantic out rebounded Troy 38-35 on the day, but had 32 team fouls that resulted in 55 free-throw attempts for the Trojans.

On Monday the Owls will be back in action to take on UAB in the first game of a two-game tournament hosted by the Blazers in Birmingham, Alabama. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Eastern.
