Women's Basketball Downed by Eastern Kentucky

Dec. 8, 2001

Final Stats

BOCA RATON, FL - Despite scoring a season-high 92 points, Florida Atlantic University fell to visiting Eastern Kentucky, 103-92, Saturday afternoon in Boca Raton. Chantale Jones led FAU (2-4) with 24 points while EKU (5-2) was led by Katie Kelly's 24 points.

A total of 11 players finished the game with at least 11 points as five Lady Owls made it into double figures. Kristy Halvorsen had a season-high 20 points to go along with 13 rebounds. Tamica Pierce scored 16 points, Crystal Boyland 13, and Janka Deckerova 11 for FAU.

"I was thoroughly disappointed in our effort," said FAU head coach Chancellor Dugan. "It's the best we've shot all year, but we had 22 turnovers and didn't rebound."

Despite falling behind by seven points early on, FAU managed to build a 33-27 lead with 7:19 left in the half. EKU then went on a 24-8 run to close the half with a 51-41 lead.

FAU would get as close as 57-50 with 16:43 left before the Lady Colonels increased the lead to 72-57 with 13:12 remaining in the game. EKU would lead by as many as 22.

Both teams shot 49 percent for the game, but EKU held a 45-35 edge on the boards while committing 18 turnovers compared to FAU's 22.

EKU's Zoey Artist scored 16 points and had 15 rebounds. Leigh Carr and Teresa McNair each added 14 while Charlotte Sizemore and Jill Perry pitched in 12.

The game featured Dugan coaching against her alma mater where she is 17th all-time in scoring after playing for EKU from 1978-82.

The loss snapped a seven-game home winning streak for FAU dating back to last season.

Florida Atlantic next hosts the University of Miami December 15 in Boca Raton.
