Owls Edged 67-65 By Belmont

Nashville, TN - Four Owls scored in double-digits, but Belmont hung on for a 67-65 victory on Saturday afternoon in the Vanderbilt thanksgiving tournament consolation game. "Our team getting back into the match after such a big deficit shows our resilience," said Head Coach Chancellor Dugan. "We're still a very young team and have a lot to work on in the gym with Sun Belt play starting up." Down 67-65 with seven seconds to play, Shuteamia Brayboy streaked down the court and put up a lay-up that rolled around and out of the rim as time expired. Belmont's Laura Cowley sunk two free throws with seven seconds left to break a 65-65 tie. FAU was down by as much as 15 with 11:20 to play in the second-half. The Owls mounted a come-back that featured four triples in the games final four minutes. Trailing 65-62, Mistoria Brown drew a charge on Alysha Clark, who fouled out with a game-high 20 points. Carla Stubbs drained a three to knot the score with 33 seconds left. Brown led the Owls with 15 points on the afternoon and chipped in four rebounds. Breana Cox and Brayboy added 13 and 12 points respectively. Carla Stubbs notched her first doubled-digit effort, banking in 10 points. The Bruins started the contest on a 12-0 run in the games opening four minutes. The Owls clawed their way back into the game, and took their first lead, 22-21, on a Sally N'Diaye lay up with 7:00 minutes remaining. The Bruins re-claimed their advantage thanks in part to 16 first-half points for Alysha Clark, and headed to the locker rooms up 11.
Belmont out rebounded FAU 44-37 on the day. Amber Rockwell chipped in 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field for the Bruins.
