Owls Win Home Opener 88-77

Nov. 17, 2006

Final Stats

BOCA RATON, FL - Chancellor Dugan notched her 100th victory at Florida Atlantic University as the Owls (1-3) defeated Akron (0-2) by a score of 88-77 in the FAU Tip-Off Classic. Mistoria Brown led FAU with a career-high 29 points.

"The way we came out and played in the second half is what Owls ladies basketball is all about," said Head Coach Chancellor Dugan. "Great shooting from the field and the free-throw line will get us wins more times than not."

Fueled by an 8-0 run to start the game, FAU jumped out to an early 18-6 advantage with 15 minutes to play in the opening frame. Akron, led by Sarah Tokodi, stormed back and took their first lead, 32-30, with 3:48 to go in the half. Tokodi had 15 of her team-high 24 points in the opening stanza. The Zips headed to the break up 39-38. Mistoria Brown scored 14 of her career high 29 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field in the first frame. She would finish the contest with six rebounds and 9-of-10 shooting from the charity stripe.

Akron controlled the tempo early in the second frame, building a 55-49 advantage with 14:26 to play. FAU would pick up the intensity and created five turnovers that helped create a 15-4 run to give the Owls a 66-59 advantage. The Zips would never get the score closer than five as FAU buried some late free throws to secure the victory.

Shuteamia Brayboy had a double-double, matching a career-best 10 point effort with 10 assists. Breana Cox had eight points and a new career-high 11 rebound performance.

The Owls shot 45.9 percent from the field and held a 39-30 rebounding advantage over the Zips.
