FAU Defeats Palm Beach Atlantic 80-46

BOCA RATON, FL - In their first home game of the season, the Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team defeated Palm Beach Atlantic 80-46 on Thursday night.

The Owls won their home opener for the second straight season. FAU got off to a slow start and trailed in the early going. A Breana Cox jumper gave FAU a 19-18 advantage with 9:31 remaining in the first half. The Owls lead 35-25 at the half, Adel Lizama led the Owls with nine first half points on 3-of-4 shooting from long range.

FAU found its rhythm in the early stages of the second half and started the half with a 14-7 run. The Owls also stepped up the defensive pressure as they held the Sailfish without a field goal for more than four minutes. The Owls closed the game on a 18-4 surge. Head women's basketball coach Chancellor Dugan commented on her team's play after the game.

"We looked really good for the most part. We got off to a slow start in the first half, but overall, I was pleased with what I saw."

Three FAU players had double-digit points, led by Jaimie Givens who scored 20 on the night. Givens also led the Owls with 12 rebounds for her first career double-double.

Senior Shuteamia Brayboy added 12 assists and passed former Owl Sherri Pla to become FAU's all-time assist leader with 421. The Owls improved to 1-1 on the season. They return to action on Sunday when they travel to Lexington to take on the University of Kentucky. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
