FAU Falls to Miami 64-45

Nov. 9, 2007

Box Score

The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team struggled to get the ball in the basket on Friday, The Owls shot 25.8 % from the floor in a 64-45 loss to Miami.

Things looked promising for the Owls early on as they went on a 7-0 run on buckets by Jana Momoh and Jamie Giller to take an 11-6 lead six minutes into the contest. However, the Hurricanes outscored the Owls 30-4 the rest of the first half to take a 35-16 lead at half.

The Owls would close the deficit to 11 points on a couple of occasions in the second half. However, they could get no closer than that, as Maurita Reid led Miami and all scorers with 21 points. Reid went five of 13 from beyond the arc and also led the Hurricanes with nine rebounds.

"We had a couple of chances but we just couldn't make shots," said Head Coach Chancellor Dugan. "When you're facing a team from the ACC, you've got to make shots, and we couldn't."

No player reached double digits in scoring for FAU. Breana Cox and Jaimie Givens led the Owls with nine points. Cox was the leading rebounder with seven; however, the Owls struggled in that category as they were outrebounded by Miami 51-39.

FAU falls to 0-1 on the season and returns to action Thursday, November 15 when they face Palm Beach Atlantic in the opening game at the newly renovated FAU arena at 7 p.m.
