Lady Owls Defeated by Georgia State

DOTHAN, AL - Florida Atlantic University was defeated by Georgia State University, 58-46, Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament. GSU never trailed as FAU was held to 27 percent shooting. Sharia Young led FAU with 12 points while Robyn Gilbert led all scorers with 17 points. The loss ends FAU's season at 12-16.

GSU (18-10) opened the game with the first five points and built as much as a 13-point lead midway through the first half. FAU then outscored GSU 14-6 to close the half and trailed 29-24 at halftime.

The Lady Panthers, behind Gilbert, scored the first six points of the second half and led 35-24. However, the run FAU hoped for never came as it could only get as close as five points down the stretch.

Monica Thomas added 11 points for Georgia State while April Clyburn and Patechia Hartman scored 10.

Shontavia Williams scored nine points for the Lady Owls. Julie Goad and Sally N'Diaye had six while Trinceca McCleod finished with four.

GSU shot 44 percent and outrebounded FAU 39-36. FAU shot 2-for-17 from beyond the arc and 14-for-23 from the line.

The game was the last for seniors Janka Deckerova, DeeAnna Hanscom, Corinth Evans, Goad, and McCleod. Deckerova, Hanscom, and Goad all finished four-year careers for the Lady Owls.
