Final Stats

The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team couldn't get anything going from the field against South Alabama on Saturday. The Owls shot 27 percent (15-55) from the field in a 65-39 loss to the Lady Jaguars at the Mitchell Center in Mobile, AL.

FAU struggled in the first half, only hitting nine of 26 from the field and never led in the ballgame. South Alabama jumped out to a 20-10 lead midway through the first half on a lay-up by Jeannette Tucker, who had eight first half points. The Owls would go on a 9-2 run to make their only push of the game, cutting the lead to 22-19 after a three-pointer by Mercedes Thompson. The Owls would get no closer than that, as the Jaguars went on a 12-0 run before the half, and led 38-23 at the break.

It was all South Alabama in the second half, as they held FAU to six of 29 shooting from the field. Shakira Nettles led the way for USA (17-9, 8-7 Sun Belt) as she scored nine of her team-leading 15 points in the second half.

"We got plenty of looks throughout the game, but the shots did not fall," said Head Coach Chancellor Dugan. "We did a good job on the scouting reports and we've got to knock the shots down."

Three players scored double-digits for South Alabama, led by Nettles' 15. Jeannette Tucker added 12 points; Brittney Rutledge came off the bench for 11 points. The Jaguars outrebounded FAU 44-29 and forced 23 FAU turnovers.

FAU (5-18, 1-13 Sun Belt) was led by Breana Cox, who had 17 points. She also led the Owls with seven boards.

FAU returns to action Thursday night for "Bury the Burrow in Red, Part III," "The Series" against Rival Florida International. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
