Women's Basketball Blitzed by Campbell

Feb. 13, 2003

Final Stats

BUIES CREEK, NC -- Florida Atlantic University was defeated by Campbell University, 107-90, Thursday night in Buies Creek, NC. Shontavia Williams led FAU with 18 points while DeeAnna Hanscom had a career-high 17. Kristal Troy led Campbell with 29.

FAU (10-11, 8-2 Atlantic Sun Conference) jumped out to a 16-10 lead with 13:15 left in the first half, but that's when Campbell (8-13, 4-6 A-Sun) took over the game. The Lady Camels went on a 44-14 run to take a 54-30 lead with 1:51 left in the half. FAU closed the first half on a 10-0 run to pull to within 54-40 at the break.

In the second half, FAU would only get as close as 11 as Campbell built as much as a 20-point lead. The Lady Camels also used free throw shooting to do in the Lady Owls, going 39-for-53 from the stripe. FAU went 20-for-29.

"We lost this game in the first half," said FAU head coach Chancellor Dugan. "You have to be ready every time you come out no matter who you're playing, and we weren't mentally prepared for this one. It's a very disappointing loss for us."

Crystal Boyland and Sharia Young each scored 10 for FAU. Tamica Pierce, FAU's leading scorer, was once again held in single-figures, scoring just eight in 21 minutes of action. Pierce was among six Lady Owls who battled foul trouble all night long. Campbell outshot FAU 50-percet to 44-percent. FAU outrebounded Campbell 45-40.

Florida Atlantic next hosts Gardner-Webb, Saturday, at 7:00pm at FAU Gymnasium.
