Owls Get Back on Track vs. Mercer, 82-75

BOCA RATON, FL - Head coach Chancellor Dugan recorded her 250th career win as Florida Atlantic University edged the Mercer Bears 82-75 on Sunday afternoon at FAU Arena. FAU (12-9, 11-3 A-Sun) has now secured its best conference record since the 2002-03 season.

"It's a great feeling winning my 250th game," Dugan said. "However, I couldn't have done it without these girls and all the special teams I have coached over the years."

Cristal Randolph knocked down one of her two first half triples to tie the game at 21 with 6:50 left in the opening stanza. With the score knotted at 26 the Owls went on 12-4 run over the final 4:27 of the first frame to build a 38-30 lead at the break.

Shontavia Williams tied her season-high with 24 points, with 13 coming in the first half. She also led the Owls with eight rebounds and added three steals in the game.

Tanya Kessenich went 6-for-6 at the free throw-line and posted 10 of her game-high 26 points in the first half for the Bears.

The Bears got within three, 57-54 with 7:26 left in the game as Sarah Russell connected on a long jumper from the wing.

Demina Anderson converted a three-point play at the 3:51 mark to give the Owls a 68-58 lead. Anderson scored 11 second half points for FAU.

Mercer continued to fight as Russell connected from beyond the arc to make the score 78-74 with 25.7 seconds remaining, but the Bears were unable to get any closer as the Owls are now in sole possession of second-place in the conference.

FAU cashed in 24 points off of 27 turnovers by the Bears and converted 12 points in the paint.

Shuteamia Brayboy dished out eight assists and recorded five steals for the Owls.
