Lady Owls Fall to GSU

ATLANTA, GA - Florida Atlantic University was outscored 15-0 in the final 4:52 and was defeated by Georgia State University 60-58 in Atlanta, GA. The loss drops FAU to 10-12 on the year and 8-7 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Shontavia Williams led FAU with 17 points. Sharia Young added 12 with Mistoria Brown posting nine points and 11 rebounds. Jackie Brown scored all of her 10 points in the second half.

GSU's Dee Dee Merriweather hit the game winner, a runner in the lane with four seconds left and one second on the shot clock to put the Lady Panthers on top 60-58. After calling timeout, FAU failed to get a shot off in its final possession. Patechia Hartman led GSU (12-10, 10-5 A-Sun) with 19 points. April Clyburn added 17 points and 12 rebounds.
 

 

GSU took a 25-16 lead in the first half before FAU put together a 16-3 run that gave the Lady Owls a 32-28 lead. FAU went to the break with a 32-30 lead.

Midway through the second half, FAU led 44-42 and appeared to have control of the game when it held GSU scoreless for nearly six minutes. In the process, FAU put together an 11-0 run and led 55-42 at the 6:39 mark. GSU cut it to 55-45 before Williams hit a three-pointer to make it 58-45 with 5:08 remaining.

That's when GSU took over the game, utilizing full-court pressure and clutch shooting in the rally. GSU forced FAU into six of its 21 turnovers during the run. FAU also missed its final four field goal attempts.

GSU shot 39 percent compared to FAU's 36 percent. FAU was a perfect 13-for-13 from the line while GSU shot 10-for-20.

Florida Atlantic next faces Campbell February 17 at 4:00pm at FAU Gymnasium.
