FAU Falls to Lipscomb

Feb. 9, 2004

Final Stats

NASHVILLE, TN - Lipscomb University defeated Florida Atlantic University, 69-52, Monday night in Nashville, TN. The Lady Bisons outscored FAU 46-18 in the second half to come from behind and pick up the victory. FAU fell to 6-14 on the year and 5-8 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Lipscomb improved to 12-9 and 9-4 in the A-Sun.

FAU dominated the first half as it held Lipscomb to 26 percent shooting and forced 10 turnovers. The big run came midway through the half as FAU outscored Lipscomb 12-0 from the 10:05 mark to the 3:20 mark and led 29-15. Lipscomb pulled to within 31-23 before a Sharia Young three-pointer with 10 seconds left gave FAU a 34-23 halftime lead.

The second half was a different story as the Lady Bisons scored the first 10 points and trailed 34-33 at the 17:35 mark. The Lady Bisons took the lead for good with 13:14 left on a Julie Martin layup that made it 42-41. That started a 12-0 run that put Lipscomb up 52-41 with 8:42 remaining. Lipscomb's largest lead was 68-49 with 2:11 to play.

"We just didn't have any intensity coming out of the locker room in the second half," said FAU head coach Chancellor Dugan. "It's so disappointing because we did what we wanted to do in the first half."

Lipscomb held FAU to 21 percent shooting in the second half and 30 percent for the game. The Bisons shot 54 percent in the second half and 42 percent for the night. Katie Beth Pate led Lipscomb with 24 points and 19 rebounds. Cristal Randolph and Shontavia Williams each had nine points. Trineca McCleod scored six and had 10 rebounds.

Florida Atlantic next faces Troy State, February 16, in Troy, AL.
