Final Stats

BOILING SPRINGS, NC -- Florida Atlantic University was defeated by Gardner-Webb University, 86-79, Monday night in Boiling Springs, NC. Sequenta Blackman led all scorers with 25 points as four players from each side finished in double-figures. Julie Goad led FAU (3-12, 2-6 Atlantic Sun Conference) with a season-high 17 points. Shontavia Williams and Trineca McCleod each scored 14 while Cristal Randolph had 12.

The game was close throughout as neither team led by more than seven points until GWU (2-11, 1-5 A-Sun) took a 70-61 lead with 7:19 left in the game. FAU then scored four straight points to pull to within 70-65 at the 5:30 mark. Then, FAU took four possessions to cut the deficit to three points with 3:49 to play.

With GWU leading 74-69, Jackie Brown made a lay-up with 2:56 left. After a turnover, McCleod scored from the paint to make it 74-73 with 2:30 to play.

That's as close as FAU would get as Gardner-Webb went on a 9-1 run to take an 83-74 lead with 38 seconds remaining.

GWU outshot FAU 48 percent to 36 percent. The Bulldogs also held a 52-39 advantage on the boards. FAU committed 24 turnovers and forced 30.

"We didn't come in here tonight with the intensity we needed on every possession," said FAU head coach Chancellor Dugan. "We just couldn't get over the hump."

GWU's Katie Gravel added 19 points. Brittany Harmon scored 14, and Crissy Guzman had 10.

Florida Atlantic next faces Troy State January 24 in the first of three straight games at FAU Gymnasium.
