FAU Falls to Florida International 53-44

Jan. 5, 2008

The Florida Atlantic women's basketball team struggled on the glass against Florida International on Saturday. The Golden Panthers outrebounded FAU 54-39 and defeated the Owls 53-44.

FAU struggled from the floor throughout the game, shooting just 17 of 56 from the field, and fell behind 11-4 early. However, FAU went on 6-0 run to get within one after a Jana Momoh layup cut the game to 11-10. The Golden Panthers responded, however, with a 7-0 run of their own, thanks to baskets by Jasmine Jenkins and Iva Ciglar. FIU led the Owls 26-19 at the half.

The Owls would cut the lead to as close as four points in the second half, thanks to Carla Stubbs, who was the only Owl in double figures with 11. However, the Owls would get no closer, as they were led by LaQuetta Ferguson, who had a double-double, 16 points and 10 rebounds, her long three-pointer put the Golden Panthers up 40-31 and FAU would not recover as FIU improves to 5-9 overall and 1-2 in the Sun Belt.

FAU falls to 4-8 and 0-3 in the Sun Belt. They struggled from the perimeter, as FAU only hit one of 10 three-pointers. The Owls will hit the road again on Thursday as they face Middle Tennessee at 8 p.m. in Murfreesboro, TN.
