FAU Falls to UCF

Jan. 4, 2005

Final Stats

ORLANDO, FL - Florida Atlantic University suffered a 49-41 loss to UCF Monday night in Atlantic Sun Conference action at UCF Arena in Orlando. Missy Glaser led FAU with 11 points while Jackie Brown added 10. The 41 points were the fewest scored by the Lady Owls in nearly 13 years as they fell to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in the A-Sun. Ali Roberts led UCF (4-6, 2-1 A-Sun) with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

"We probably shot as poorly as we have all year from everywhere tonight," said FAU head coach Chancellor Dugan.

FAU shot a dismal 24 percent from the field on 16-of-66 shooting. The Lady Owls, who entered the game first in the A-Sun in three-point field goal percentage, managed just 14 percent (4-of-29) from beyond the arc.

Scoring was a problem all night for both teams. UCF took five minutes to get on the board in the first half as FAU took a 7-0 lead. The Golden Knights battled back to eventually tie the game at 14-14 with just under five minutes to play in the half. A Claudia Johnson three as time expired gave UCF a 23-18 lead at the half.

FAU trailed by as many as seven points in the second half and could get no closer than four points down the stretch. UCF controlled the boards with a 56-32 advantage. The Golden Knights also went 15-for-25 from the line compared to FAU's 5-for-8.

FAU held UCF to 33 percent shooting and forced the Golden Knights into 31 turnovers.

"I was happy with the way our defense played," added Dugan. "We just didn't rebound the basketball. We're aware that rebounding is one of our weaknesses, but we've got to make it a strength."

The 41 points are the lowest since January 21, 1992, when FAU was defeated 108-26 by Tennessee.

FAU returns home to face Troy on Thursday night at 7:00pm.
