Owls Excel in Southern Intercollegiates

Sept. 27, 2007

BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's men's tennis team has returned from the Southern Intercollegiates with the program's best showing at the event.

The first day saw Olivier Sajous, seeded no. 14 defeat Wofford's Andrew Stubbs 6-0, 2-6, 6-4. FAU newcomer Marc Abdelnour fell in his debut 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 to Florida State's Jean Yves Abuone, ranked no. 70 nationally.

Sajous returned to the court Saturday to defeat Sam Chang, a top player at Florida State, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, in the round of 32 before dropping his first match in nearly a year to Travis Helgeson 6-2, 7-6 (3). Helgeson was the tournament's top seed and is ranked no. 4 nationally.

Sajous and Abdelnour, seeded no. 4 in the top draw, defeated Cevka/Podkrajsek, from Georgia State, but were forced to withdraw from the second round due to an Abdelnour injury.

Abdelnour, playing injured, fell to Furman's Bo Dadyman 7-6 (5), 6-1.
