Kevin Obletz and David Demers Captured No. 1 Doubles against UM at Hurricane Invitational
Sept. 18, 2005 Coral Gables, FL - Day three at the University of Miami Hurricane Invitational proved the hardest day for Florida Atlantic University's men's tennis team. The three-day event saw the Owls face individuals from host Miami. The doubles team of Kevin Obletz and David Demers captured no. 1 doubles for the Owls showing marked improvement under first year head coach David Komie. "Based upon last year's results, doubles was a liability," said Komie. "We were swept a year ago by Georgia Southern, Stetson and Miami, in dual match play. This year, however, we won several doubles matches against those same teams including no. 1 against Miami and that's without our no. 1 and no. 2 players from last year. The team and I are encouraged by this but, know we have a lot of hard work ahead of us to reach our goals." Individually, Obletz faced Josh Cohen, ranked no. 20 nationally. Obletz fell in two sets like each of his teammates. Both Mauricio Paiz and Gianfranco Dossena also challenged players ranked among the countries top-100. FAU will next participate in the Southern Intercollegiates hosted by the University of Georgia, in Athens, Ga., Sept. 23-26.
