Championship Season Comes to an End

BATON ROUGE, LA - No. 52 Florida Atlantic University was defeated 4-1 by the 19th-ranked University of Texas Saturday afternoon. The contest was a first round match-up in the NCAA Tournament in Baton Rouge, LA. The loss ends FAU's season at 21-5. Texas (18-5) began the match by taking the doubles point. The team of Michael Domansky and Ryan Haymond defeated FAU's Fabio Faerman and Sandro Spotti 8-2 at no. 3 before UT's Ron Kloppert and Jean Simon defeated Yalin Bilgin and Martin Jirak 8-3 at no. 1. Texas took the second point of the match in singles play with a victory at no.1 as Simon defeated FAU's Doug Devriendt 7-6, 6-3. The Owls pulled to within 2-1 when Sandro Spotti won on court five 7-6, 6-0 over Will Clinton. UT took a 3-1 lead when Jose Zarhi defeated Jirak 6-3, 6-3. The Longhorns clinched the match when Kloppert defeated Andre Buzzoni 7-6, 6-4.
The NCAA Tournament appearance was the second straight for the Owls as they completed their best season with a team-record 21 wins and their first Trans America Athletic Conference Championship.
