Three FAU Players Named to All-ASC First Team

Nov. 16, 2007

BOCA RATON, FL - Three players from the Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team were named to the All-Atlantic Soccer Conference first team on Thursday, while head coach Kos Donev earned Coach of the Year honors.

Junior midfielder Liam Ogle led the Owls in scoring with 14 points (5G, 4A) in his first season at FAU. The Newcastle, England native scored goals in three-consecutive games during October and was named ASC Player of the Week during that span.

Junior defender Guilherme Ribeiro was a force in the backfield all season long for FAU, serving as one of the team's most vocal leaders. His presence helped limit opponents to a goal or less in 12 of the Owls' 18 games, including the last five games to close the season.

Shire Standnes continues to be one of Florida Atlantic's most dynamic offensive players at the forward position. The Oslo, Norway junior was second on the team in scoring with 11 points (4G, 3A) and delivered in the clutch with 3 game-winning goals.

Head coach Kos Donev entered his 21st season in search of his first conference title, and he would accomplish that feat with a 4-0-1 record for the ASC regular-season crown. At 9-7-2 overall, Donev's club earned the top seed in the ASC post-season tournament and continues on a quest for FAU's first-ever NCAA tournament bid. The Macedonia native is 175-184-17 all-time at FAU.

Senior midfielder Diego Monsalve (1G, 1A - 3 Pts), sophomore defender Trey McEntee (0G, 1A - 1 Pt), and sophomore goalkeeper Phillip Lamarre (9-7-2, 1.28 GAA, 5 SHO) all earned second team honors. Voting was conducted by a poll of ASC coaches.

Florida Atlantic faces fourth-seeded NJIT in the first round of the ASC tournament on Friday in Farmville, VA at noon. The winner will face the team emerging from the (2) Longwood vs. (3) Adelphi matchup in the championship on Sunday at 2 p.m.
