![]() Atlantic Sun Announces 2001 Men's Soccer All-Conference Honors
Nov. 15, 2001 Macon, GA - Macon, Ga. - Mercer senior midfielder Max Rooke was named the A-Sun Men's Soccer Player of the Year as the Atlantic Sun Conference announced the 2001 Men's Soccer All-Conference Teams on Thursday afternoon. Mercer, who tied with Stetson for the 2001 A-Sun Regular Season Title, placed four players on the All-Conference First-Team. The Atlantic Sun also named Stetson's Sean Murphy Coach of the Year, and FAU's Tim Sobczak Freshman of the Year.
Florida Atlantic freshman defender Tim Sobczak (Brandon, Fla.) was named the Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year and was named to the All-Conference Second-Team. Sobczak started 15 games in his first season with the Owls.
FAU senior goalkeeper Jonas Kolstad was named to the A-Sun First Team. Kolstad finished 5th in the conference in goals against with a 1.84 in 17 games played. He made 117 saves on the season and recorded 2 shutouts.
Along with Sobczak and Kolstad, senior midfielder Pablo Luna was named to the second team. Luna played in 15 games and recorded 4 assists on the season. FAU finished the season at 6-11 overall and 4-3 in conference play and earned the #4 seed in the A-Sun Championship.
The 2001 Atlantic Sun Men's Soccer Championship begins this Friday in Macon, Georgia at 4:00 p.m. when #2 Stetson squares off against #3 Jacksonville. The other opening round game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. when top-seed and host Mercer faces #4 FAU. The Championship Match is scheduled for this Saturday, November 17, at 7:00 p.m.
