FAU Seeks Conference Crown at Home This Weekend
Nov. 1, 2007
BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team controls its own destiny in pursuit of the Atlantic Soccer Conference title, as they face Howard University and Florida International University this weekend to close out the regular season. FAU (6-7-2, 3-0-1 ASC) stands atop the ASC following last weekend's 1-1 tie at Adelphi. Junior Liam Ogle scored a goal for the third consecutive game, pushing his season point total to a team-leading 12 (5G, 2A). Sophomore Phillip Lamarre was named ASC Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time this season, making several crucial saves to preserve the tie with Adelphi. Lamarre has four shutouts on the season and holds the Owls' all-time career mark with ten over his first two years at FAU. Howard (3-5-5, 1-1-1 ASC) is the only remaining team in the ASC with a mathematical chance of catching FAU. The Bison have just one win over the last five games, a 3-2 home victory over Adelphi on October 21. Sophomore forward Lamar Hyde leads the team in scoring (6G, 2A - 14 Pts), followed closely by junior midfielder Guilherme Fonseca (4G, 2A - 10 Pts). Florida International (2-11-2, 2-5-0 C-USA) has wins over Central Florida and Alabama-Birmingham to its credit this season. Sophomore midfielder Juan Guerra leads the Panthers offensive attack with 11 points (5G, 1A) on the season. Friday's game with Howard is slated for a 7 p.m. start, while Sunday's season finale against FIU begins at 2 p.m.
Sunday is Fan Appreciation Day, with half-price admission for adults wearing FAU gear, and free admission for children with FAU apparel or signs supporting the team. Water bottles and Owls towels will also be given away to fans in attendance.
