Men's Soccer Sweeps Atlantic Sun Honors
Oct. 14, 2002 Macon, Ga. - For the first time in program history, Florida Atlantic University swept the Atlantic Sun Player-of-the-Week award. Forward Kristoffer Aarskog and keeper Anders Granstad were awarded the honors this afternoon by the conference office as the duo led the Owls to a pair of conference wins. Aarskog, a sophomore from Bergen, Norway, led an offensive attack that scored 13 goals over the weekend to win the Offensive Player-of-the-Week honors. Against Campbell University on Thursday night, Aarskog scored two goals to lead the Owls to a 6-1 win. He followed up that performace with a two goal outing against Gardner-Webb on Saturday night in a 7-0 win. Aarskog now has nine goals and 20 points on the season, both good for first in the conference. Granstad, a freshman from Oslo, Norway, closed the door on both wins with flawless play for the Owls to take home the Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors. Aarskog faced 22 shots in two games allowing just one goal. He ended the week with 10 saves and two victories en route to lowering his goals against average to 1.20. Granstad ranks third in the conference in saves (53) and second in the A-Sun in GAA.
Florida Atlantic embarks on a two game road trip on Friday as the Owls play defending conference champion Mercer Universty at 7:00 pm then play Georgia State University, Sunday, October 20th at 1:00 pm.
