Bjorn Masson Earns A-Sun Honors
Sept. 30, 2002 Macon, Ga. - Florida Atlantic University forward Bjorn Masson was awarded the Atlantic Sun Offensive-Player-of-the-Week award as announced by the league office on Monday. Masson led the Owls to the 2002 Umbro Classic Championship over #22 ranked Columbia. Bjorn Masson, from Gardabaer, Iceland, earned the A-Sun weekly honors after scoring three goals and assisting on another in the Umbro Classic. Masson registered the first hat trick of his career and first at FAU in over a year and a half as the Owls defeated West Virginia 4-3. In the championship game he assisted on the opening goal of the game and played a pivotal role in the win over #22 ranked Columbia for the tournament title. For his efforts in those two games, Masson earned Offensive-Player-of-the-Tournament honors. His three goals on the season have eclipsed his 2001 season total of two. The Owls improved their record to 3-5-1 with the weekend wins. FAU returns to action Saturday, October 5th, when they host UCF in a crucial A-Sun match.
