FAU Returns Home for Battle with Marshall

Sept. 25, 2007

BOCA RATON, FL - Completing their first road swing of the 2007 season, the Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team now prepares for a match-up against Marshall University on Sunday at FAU Field.

The Owls (4-4-0, 1-0-0 ASC) defeated New Jersey Institute of Technology, 2-0, in their first Atlantic Soccer Conference game of the season last Friday. Junior midfielder Igor Santos scored both goals for FAU, leading to his selection as ASC Player of the Week. The team finished their northern voyage with a 4-2 loss at Manhattan last Sunday.

"The team is gelling much better," said Head Coach Kos Donev. "We're playing better soccer and we're defending better as a team."

Sophomore Phillip Lamarre saw his scoreless goals-against streak end just shy of 300 minutes after posting three consecutive shutouts, a total that leads all ASC goalkeepers. His stellar play continues to pace Florida Atlantic's defensive effort.

"Phil has been doing a very good job in every single game," said Donev. "Against NJIT, he pulled a save out of nowhere on a shot that looked like it was in the net. That kept us in the game and gave us a chance to win."

Marshall (4-3-0) enjoys a three-game winning streak as they enter play this week. The Thundering Herd faces a home tilt with Ohio Valley on Wednesday, before beginning its Florida trip with a Friday contest at Florida International. MU is led by junior forward Kolby LeCrone (4G, 1A - 9 Pts), whose game-winning goal in double overtime helped defeat Western Kentucky in the final match of the Marshall Classic last Sunday.

The start time for Sunday's game has been changed from 1 p.m. to Noon, due to a traveling schedule conflict for Marshall University. Tickets for all games are $4 for adults, $2 for children 12 and under, and $1 for children wearing youth league jerseys. Tickets may be purchased by calling the FAU ticket office at 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
