FAU's Santos Named Atlantic Soccer Conference Player of the Week
Sept. 25, 2007
BOCA RATON, FL - Junior midfielder Igor Santos became the first member of the Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team to earn the Atlantic Soccer Conference's top weekly honor in 2007, as the league named him its Player of the Week on Tuesday. Santos scored twice in a 2-0 conference-opening victory at New Jersey Institute of Technology last Friday. The two goals were his first of the season, coming just twelve minutes apart. Liam Ogle assisted on the initial marker in the 33rd minute of the match, as Santos clanked a shot off the left post and into the net. Dag Bjorgum provided help on the second strike just 31 seconds into the second half. The Pompano Beach, FL native has appeared in all eight of FAU's games this season, starting six. Santos has registered six shots on the season, along with his two goals.
This was the second time in as many weeks that Owl players have been honored by the conference. Sophomore Phillip Lamarre earned Goalkeeper of the Week accolades after a two-shutout performance in Week 1, while freshman midfielder Gianni Piccoletti was named Rookie of the Week following his double-overtime winning-goal against Iona.
