![]() Men's Soccer to Face No. 24 Florida International
Sept. 21, 2004 The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team will head south to Miami on Wednesday to take on local rivals and 24th-ranked Florida International University at 7 pm in a game postponed from Friday, September 3 because of Hurricane Frances. The game will still be the home opener for the Golden Panthers. FAU (2-1) is coming off Friday's 6-0 defeat of NAIA school Trevecca Nazarene in the Owls' home opener. Borce Ancevski and Rustin Kluge each scored twice in the victory while Josh Garbee and Kristoffer Aarskog each added a goal of their own. Anders Granstad and Helgi Helgasson combined for the shutout in the first ever game between the two schools. The Golden Panthers are 2-2 on the season and have already played three games against ranked teams, losing two of them. A 3-2 overtime victory over then-No. 7 North Carolina in the Nike Carolina Classic on September 10 was followed two days later by a 3-2 overtime loss to then-No. 5 Wake Forest in the same tournament. A trip this past weekend to the USF-Holiday Inn Invitational saw the Golden Panthers defeat Alabama A&M 4-3 before losing 1-0 to 5th-ranked Southern Methodist. Junior midfielder Jared Rose leads FIU with three goals, two assists and eight total points. FIU holds a 23-2-1 all-time series advantage over the Owls, and have won five of their last six meetings. The two teams played to a 1-1 tie in their only meeting in 2003.
