FAU Men's Soccer Prepares for Two Road Matches
Sept. 16, 2008
The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team is coming off a weekend that had split results and leaves the Owls at a 2-4-0 overall record. FAU defeated Stetson University 1-0 on Friday, September 12, then returned home Saturday, September 13 and lost in a double overtime thriller to Seattle University by a score of 2-1. Freshman Rocco Pecora scored the only goal against Stetson, and sophomore Gianni Piccoletti scored FAU's solo goal against Seattle on a penalty kick attempt. In their first season in the Mid American Conference (MAC), the FAU men's soccer team will begin conference play with two road matches - the University of Buffalo on Wednesday, September 17 and the University of Akron on Friday, September 19. Buffalo sports a 4-2-0 record and is coming off a 1-0 loss at Michigan State University and a 2-1 loss at the University of Michigan. This will be the Bulls' first MAC match of the season and the second match between the two schools, with FAU winning the only other match in 1996. After playing Buffalo, FAU will head to Akron, Ohio to face the No. 10 team in the nation. The University of Akron is 3-1-1 on the season, most recently losing to the University of New Mexico and tying Missouri State University. The Zips have already produced four shutouts on the young 2008 season. This is the first time that FAU will be playing Akron since entering the MAC Conference, and only the second time to play them overall since FAU fell to the Zips in 1993. After five consecutive road games, FAU will return home to play conference opponent Hartwick College on Saturday, October 11 at 7 p.m. For more information on tickets, call 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
